Mayweather vs Pacquiao

Manny ’Pacman’ Pacquiao a boxing superstar, the first boxer to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions and Floyd Mayweather Jr. whom has won six world boxing championships in five different weight classes might be fighting in May 2010 at the Staples Center here in Los Angeles? According to The LA Times, both Pacquiao and Mayweather havent agreed on fighting each other but everyone has been so hyped up about this event to go down because of the media. Since the last fight that Pacquiao defeated, right after there were already speculations about Paquiao fighting one of the best which is Mayweather. The news coverage as well as all the other media news outlets, have been debating who will win and who is the best so far.

It’s very interesting how both boxing fighters havent yet agreed on fighting one another, but the media is hyping out us, the viewers and hopefully getting the fighters to come forward and agree on fighting each other. They were planning to fight at the Staples Center next year but due to costs they would have to pay for the event to go down at the Staples Center would be a large amount of money to settle the fight at.

This fight, so far, will be one of the biggest fights during next year 2010. Both are very good fighters and it’s kind of hard to predict who will win and who will lose. From what I’ve been hearing, it will be a good fight. Like I said previously, they have been announcing this fight since the last time Pacquiao had won. A reason I think the media has been talking about this fight, to make sure everyone tunes in to watch it, because according to the media coverage, this fight will be one of the greatest and you cannot deserve to miss this phenomenon!

Tiger Woods

As you may have heard, Tiger Woods got into an accident late last week just outside his Orlando home and was issued a traffic citation by the Florida Highway Patrol, says the LA Times. He was arguing with his wife while driving and apparently crashed into a tree. There are also rumors that he had an affair with a woman and is now apologizing for his actions.

Every time a celebrity gets into a car accident, dui, or anything, the media is the first that deliver that message to us the audience. I honestly think the media should stay out of the lives of celebrities. Regardless if they’re celebrities we’re all the same and they should have their private lives as everyone else. They’re nothing special. Just because they’re well know for what they do, doesn’t mean they have to get all the attention or special treatment.

The media goes wild to get these stories that will get viewers or listeners to be into all the celebrity gossip and what’s going on in their lives. That’s what the media is for and thats what they do, but when it comes to serious personal business like marriages, should stay out of the lives of ‘celebrities’. All I want to say is we’re all the same and they business shouldnt be let out for everyone to know.

Black Friday

While every ones food is digesting from the previous day which was Thanksgiving, The US stands in long lines at malls and other retail stores to get good discounts on anything like clothes, electronics, etc. There are many people who camp outside the stores to be the first ones to get the good sales before anyone else. This day is called Black Friday which always takes place the day after Thanksgiving which is a Friday.

I honestly havent gone shopping on black Friday or even waited in the long lines. When I was younger I always told my parents to wake up early so we can get the good prices and also for curiosity. They never wanted to wake up early to go shopping because they thought it was ridiculous. Now that im older, i also think it’s ridiculous. They may have good prices for the first ten people but really I think the sales they have are regular sales they have all year. The media tells us that they’re going to have good sales on black Friday, but really they trick us to get out and to support the ‘sales’.

The media advertises through commercials, billboards, newspapers to get us the viewers to plan out and save money for the big day. Another thing i’d like to point out is when you read the small print they usually have a good sale but only certain amount of things. So what are the odds of actually buying that. It’s all publicity which makes you grab their attention to wake up early to get all the ‘sales’

UCLA students protest UC’s 32% increase

Yesterday, November 18th, some students from UCLA protested on campus because of the 32% student fee increase; about $2500 more than what they usually pay. Many parents cannot afford sending their child to the university of their child’s dreams. Imagine now, our economy has already fallen for several months now, where will we get the money from? Thankfully there’s financial aid, cal grants, and other types of programs that will help pay for our education but that isnt enough for students now and days. During the peaceful quiet protest, as some students say, the police obviously showed up and tazed about three students during the protest. This isnt the first time someone gets tazed on campus. There was a student that grabbed the rail that the police was standing behind and got tazed. Nothing seriously happened to the student but I think it’s not fair that police can just show up whenever they want and do what ever they want.

The increase will definitely hurt students and their parents attending UC’s  in California. LA Times says, “The proposed two-step student fee increase would raise UC undergraduate education costs more than $2,500, or 32%.The annual cost of a UC education, not including campus-based fees would rise to $10,302.” I just wonder where the students and their parents will be getting the money from? I didn’t want to transfer because it’s really expensive and hard to afford going to a University. I would wish to transfer to a good school after SMC, but seeing this, I definitely dont want to attend at a UC. It’s hard to afford going to a university, especially right now.

When they were having the protest, the media only show us what was going on from a high view. Who really knows what went down there. The media doesnt really show much that we would like to see in the news. For example if the police did more than tazering students, they wont give the police away like that. It’s really devestating to hear that they will be increasing the student fee. But it’s a good idea that the students came together to save their education.

Mayans predict the end in 2012.

The film 2012 was released today Friday the 13th. First of all the mayan calendar ends in 2012. So what happens next? If you ask me, the media has definitely made us to believe that our world will end in 2012.  They have been announcing the release of this movie for some time now. When I first saw the trailer to this movie, I thought it was one, ridiculous even to make a movie of something that might happen to us in 2012. I was going to support this movie. But last night I was with a couple of friends which were interested in watching the movie, just for curiosity. I saw the movie which was ridiculous and reminded me of the movie ‘The day after tomorrow’. The movie was good to some because of the action but if anything it scarred others. At the end of the movie, the one thing I told myself was ‘now what? It’s our turn to really experience what will truly happen’.

Like I said previously, none of us know what will really happen until that day comes. But what the media has been showing is the world exploding, buildings collapsing. Thinking about it, it reminded me of Noah’s Arc. In the movie they had several big, im not sure if they were boats, but they kept animals and people inside to keep safe, until it was time to begin the new life. Something that  I also noticed as well was the movie was released on Friday the 13th, when they say it’s a bad luck day, which I dont believe in at all. All of this is coming from the media, it’s all conspiracy because of the media! They advertised this film using billboards, commercials, signs on buses. It’s all over the city right and left.

I never would have thought I’d see that many ppl watching this movie at 12am this morning. Apparently many people have been waiting for the movie to be released. I thought people werent going to support the film because this may be something that will happen to us in the future; hopefully not. But I’ve been hearing about 2012 everywhere.

Is getting the flu shot the best thing to do?

People all over the country are going crazy because there isnt enough flu vaccination’s for everyone. But is it the right decision to make? Well according to a story that I found online, these vaccinations do have side effects that can be very critical and can scare you for life. According to examiner.com they stated, ”Flowing long brown hair, a beautiful face and adoring husband are features that describe Desiree Jennings and her life. However, her life today is changed forever –for the worse–from where it existed only a few short weeks ago. Less than a month ago, Desiree was a Redskins football team cheerleader, marathon runner and energetic fast-moving athlete. She was a very athletic person and something like this to happen to someone is shocking and devastating. Many of us have of recently have gotten the flu shot to prevent ourselves since it is the flu season. Nearly 30,000 people die a year or are hospitalized from the flu. They have released this to the public on websites, on the news, to catch everyone’s attention in order to be cautious and have this in mind when thinking to get the shot. This is a very serious situation that occurred and I think people should really think twice to get the flu shot. I think after releasing this information to the public got many that had gotten the shot scarred. But people who havent gotten it may have them to think twice about the decision. When they came out with the H1N1 vaccination, I wasnt thinking on getting it. Just hoping to god that I do not catch it and if I do, for my body to deal with it normally. I’ve gotten the flu but I rather for my body to deal with it normally. So next time you think about getting the shot think about it twice.

This is It

When pop star singer Michael Jackon died back in June, many people were devistated by the loss of a great legendary pop star that many people grew up to; the media was shocked as well showing it on every tv station and still are. And people are still talking about him especially with his new tour rehearsal movie which was relased yesterday, Oct 28th. Many people were waiting from Tuesday to screen the movie at midnight. The wind sure didnt stop them from waiting in line to see Michael Jackon’s movie premiere.

The media has been promoting and talking about that this movie was going to be a big movie premiere, but from what i’ve heard, yeah people have watched this movie, but I thought it would have been more. Unfortunately they relased this movie too soon. He recently passed 4 months ago. Relasing a movie 4 months of someone that touched many people, is really too soon. But the true fans of Michael Jackson waited on a windy day, nothing obviously stopped them from viewing the movie before everyone got the chance to watch it.

It’s just been really crazy just hearing about Michael Jackon still investigating what happened on the June day. I truely respect the pop star but I just think it was too soon to relase the movie.

Just for a show?!

Have you been hearing either on the news, radio, or even your fellow co-workers talking about a poor boy in a balloon that went up high in the sky and was missing? Sorry to break it to you guys, but the family was planning to start of their family. Surprisingly, this foolish incident was going to appear on their show; this was planned all along! So this is what happened in more detail.

The parents have been on a reality show before. They decided to go around and search for a network to give them their own reality show. Im not quite sure how they found a tv network but they accomplish their goal. In order to attract more publicity from other media all over the country, they came up with the most foolish idea. Get a giant balloon and pretend to have their son be in the balloon that flew pretty high in the sky. Decided to call someone and this person released what was going on to all of the media. It was shown on all networks live. But when the balloon came down police and others, searched the balloon and had no boy. They thought maybe he fell, and now he’s dead. The viewers that were watching this on live news became worried for the family and the boy. He later appeared and as soon as he did, a network got an exclusive interview with the family about the incident. During the interview one of their sons spilled the beans and mentioned to the interviewer that it was only for the show; just wanted publicity and sure did work. Unfortunately the parents are in serious trouble and will be facing some charges for their mistake.

I wasnt able to see it live when all of the local tv networks were showing it, but I did hear the next day about what happened and continued hearing new information as days went by and what we didnt know. Everyone that heard about this were played a game on. As soon as this happened, all media had their ears and eyes open to release this information with us. All the time they took to get this story and at the end you find out that it was only for publicity and to grab the media’s attention. It was very foolish of the family just for fame. If it wasnt for the little kid speaking out the truth, they would have ever gotten caught. Sometimes kids shouldnt know everything, I mean a little to late for that. If you ask me people are beginning to have 8 kids for publicity; I think the odds in having a reality show is high…

Was it the right choice?

This Monday October 12th, the media went crazy releasing that President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. To add on, the nobel prize comes along with one million dollars. First, I would like to wonder what he’s going to do with that million dollars. Despite the economy, I think it’ll be best if he put that money into use for our country. But according to the media, they say that immediately after he was announced president, they placed him as a candidate for the nobel prize.

Was it the right choice?

This years peace prize nominees include 172 people and 33 organizations. There were many nominees this year who have helped their country or people in different ways but unfortunately lost to Pres. Obama. I’m glad that Pres. Obama won to become our president but I deffintely think it was too early for him to win such a meaningful prize. He’s been saying many good things that he will do for the country but really hasnt showed a change. People can just say promises or say they’ll do it but actually doing it is way different from just saying it. It would make a lot of sense if they awarded him the nobel prize when he completed a task. But now, people and the media as well are asking them selves, why him, how come now? It’s confusing to many of us that dont understand why he was the right person for this prize.

According to FOXNews.com there were many people with different perspectives about Pres. Obama. Washington Post blogger Ezra Klein joked on Twitter: “Obama also awarded Nobel Prize in chemistry. ‘He’s just got great chemistry,’ says Nobel committee.” The Daily Beast’s Peter Beinart wrote: “I like Barack Obama as much as the next liberal, but this is a farce.” And Michael Russnow wrote on the Huffington Post that he too is an Obama supporter but, “Whatever Happened to Awarding for Deeds Actually Done?” Russnow likens the “extremely premature” award to “giving an Oscar to a young director for films we hope that he or she will produce.” As you can see many people dont agree with the nomination or either expect for pres. Obama to accomplish his tasks good. I think as long as he does good as president he’ll make everyone happy.

“Prices are lower than ever!”

Latley I’ve been seeing many advertisments on billboards, commercials, magazines about grocery stores decreasing their food prices. I guess we’re not the only ones that are suffering from the economy right now. Many people stopped shopping for groceries at expensive places like at Ralphs or even Albertsons. People are really cutting back from buying expensive things that many stores are not selling as much as they used to; but who would of thought grocery stores would too?

The prices decreasing will not only help grocery stores but we, the people as well. That’s what we especially need right now. We can now buy food at a lower price and save doouble as much as we used to spend. It’s ridiculous how some grocery stores before had really exxpensive food, when you can find the same thing at another grocery store. But thats long gone. Now everyone can be happy by not spending a lot and able to maintain their famillies.

The media has gotten from billboards, to newspapers, to magazines to advertise these low prices to get people to shop back to these grocery stores. And to help these business that have also gotten hit by the economy. If people arent making money, then who will buy.

So go to your local grocery store and save!!!
